"Our first duty is to the children of our own community.   It is our duty to
clothe them, feed them and give them medical care.  Because if we are
to build a better America tommorow, it must be with our children on our
doorstep todat.  The Columbia chapter of Junior Youth Auxiliary was
chartered in 1991 and promotes and enhances the National Associations
legacy of volunteer service.  Volunteers invest hours of time and tireless
energy in 14 projects - an investment that always returns dividends.  These
projects are:  Personal Care Boxes - Good Beginnings - Cheer Me Up -
Salvation Army Camp Supplies - Speakers at Central - Family Resource
Center Dau Camp - The Family Center - Maury County Library Summer
Reading Program - Clay Cadets - Mentoring - Back Pack Bundles - Audio
Accelerated Reading - Adopt A Family.

The Maury COunty Chili Cookoff is Junior Auxiliary of Columbia's major
annual fundraiser.  This community event involves children's activities,
live entertainment and a hot and spicy chili competition.  All projects
sponsored by Junior Auxiliary of Columbia during the year are funded
by this event.

Perhaps the monst far-reaching of all Junior Auxiliary activities is the
National Graduate Scholarship program which awards grants to students
who are preparing to work directly with children and youth.  With this Nat-
ional Graduate Scholarship Program, Junior Auxiliaries make a profound
and lasting impact on both the present and the future.

"You can work for your own people in your own town.  It isn't national
leaders we need so much as men of goodwill in each little town in
America."  So try keep Maury County a decent place by being a
correct citizen yourself.  "America depends on its little-towns - those
strong, decent, caring communities which are homes to Junior Auxi-
liaries.  In 1950, the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries adopted
"Care today - Character tomorrow" as our permanent slogan.  Then
as now, we continue to accept the challenge that if we are to build a
better America tomorrow, it must be with the children on our doorstep
today.
